The Oregon Public Utilities Commission on Friday endorsed Portland General Electric’s plan to shutter its Boardman coal plant in 2020.
"At this point in time, the 2020 plan makes the best sense from the perspective of customers," said PUC spokesman Bob Valdez.

The federal Bonneville Power Administration on Thursday proposed an 8.5 percent increase in wholesale power rates to cover maintenance and upgrade costs for hydroelectric and nuclear power systems in the Northwest.
The Portland-based nonprofit federal wholesale utility controls the federal hydropower dams along the Columbia River that are a major source of low-cost power to the region.
