The Office of Human Resources Green Team consists of Cristina McGimsey, Karen Abbott Yelle and Joslyn Webster.
The Office of Human Resources was originally awarded the RecycleWorks Award from the City of Portland's Office of Sustainable Development in November 2006. We have also renewed this award for another 3 years. We are currently one of three departments at PSU who have been awarded this honor.
As a RecycleWorks award winner, the Office of Human Resources will
- Gain attention with an award made from reclaimed bicycle parts
- Earn public recognition through advertisements ran in the Oregonian's In Portland section, and in the Portland Business Journal
- Be a role model for other businesses
- Earn appreciation from consumers, community members and employees alike who value efforts to conserve resources.
As a result of winning this award, the Office of Human Resources was featured in the Portland Business Journal.
SUSTAINABLE PRACTICES
- Photocopiers with double-sided print feature (print double-sided regularly)
- Recycled content purchasing policy (currently, 90% of office supplies purchases are post-consumer, recycled-content)
- Staff use own durable products (mugs, cups, flatware, etc.)
- Write agendas on white board rather than distributing individual agendas
- Turn out lights when offices or conference room vacant
- 66% of 30 regular staff use public transportation/walk/bike or carpool to and from work
- Use durable name labels for staff, rather than paper name labels for each use
- Proper labeling all recycling bins and recycles bins for paper in each office, as well as centrally located. Recycle bin for glass, tin, plastic, etc. in common area.
- Major use of ONLINE systems:
- Open enrollment
- PeopleAdmin for recruitment - requisitions and applications
- Electronic address changes, pay stubs, W-2’s
- Electronic Personnel Action Form (EPAF)
- Web time-entry for hourly employees
- Use of e-mail for campus notices
- Scan all student stipend forms so there are no duplications
FUTURE GOALS
- Campus on-line leave reporting
- 100% of requisitions and recruitments to go through PeopleAdmin on-line source.
- Majority of all employees will report in our on-line time sheet system.
We work within our office to be environmentally responsible. However, our role as HR provides the opportunity for us to have a significant impact on the university as a whole in reduction of paper documents and sustainable practices.
