Created in March of 2008, the Housing and Transportation Services (HATS) Green Team is made up of representatives from University Housing, Transportation & Parking, HATS Administration and Residential Living. HATS reaches thousands of PSU students through promotion of alternative transportation and on-campus living.
Sustainable Practices:
- Eliminating the use of disposable dishware and cups for department employees
- Implementing a purchasing policy that favors office products with recycled content
- Collecting and composting food scraps in department breakrooms
- Labeling all recycling bins
- Setting double-sided printing as a default on department computers
- Using scrap paper in printers for ‘draft’ documents
Current and Upcoming Projects
- Promoting energy conservation in Residence Halls on campus
- Calculating paper and energy use for each department and exploring ways to reduce both
