The PSU Bicycle Advocacy Committee (PSUBAC) works to improve bike transportation and the cycling community at PSU.
Started in 2007, the group has worked with groups such as Environmental Club, Sustainability Group, ASPSU and the Bike Co-op to network and build connections. PSUBAC welcomes students, faculty, staff, and community members interested in improving conditions and community for cyclists at and around PSU.
PSUBAC is starting to plan out what events we want to put on during the year. We've got a good start at a list below, but we're looking for feedback on these ideas or more ideas for events that will help build community among cyclists at PSU (or, if you have an advocacy related idea, what events can help us improve conditions for PSU's cyclists?).
Ongoing events:
- Bike Socials: once a term. Idea: 10-15 minute presentation followed by questions, then eat and socialize in a casual atmosphere. Basically, a chance to get the PSU bike community in one spot and to help inform and network.
- Volunteering with community bike groups (BTA, CCC, etc): every two weeks
- Advocacy planning & coordination meetings: every two weeks
Fall:
- During New Student Week:
- GreenSpace open house (the opening of a shared office and resource center for sustainability related groups, including PSUBAC). We'll start a book collection soon, and we're aiming to create a bikey hang out space with books, magazines, movies, and a couch.
- Around Town By Bike: A urban tour of routes and cool places to go. Goal is to introduce new students to biking in P-town.
- During First Week:
- Monday and/or Tuesday: Breakfast for Bikers (reward folks who bike by providing pastries and coffee)
- Wednesday: Bike Fair in Smith Union (learn about student bike groups, the co-op, and local bike retailers).
Winter:
- Winter Bike Commute Workshop: how to keep riding during the darker & wetter half of the year.
- Bike Film Screening(s) at 5th Ave Cinema: Movie(s) about bike fun, bike advocacy, or just bike related
Spring:
- Bike Breakfast first week of school and once during May
- Volunteering with events put at PSU on during May (National Bike Month)
Summer:
