Sustainability Leadership Center
What Does the Sustainability Leadership Center Do?

The Sustainability Leadership Center is a newly-funded department which officially began July 1st, 2009.  This Center is housed as a program within Student Affairs and is managed by Heather Spalding, Sustainability Leadership and Outreach Coordinator. Our program is funded in full by a generous donation from the Miller Foundation

The Center will coordinate engagement, inclusion and leadership development within the student body in relation to sustainability.  Five student employees will be hired during September 2009.  Check the EcoWiki or sign up for our bulletin for upates about these innovative positions.

Our Vision: To be recognized as a living laboratory for sustainability leadership as we prepare students to utilize their educations to create a society that encourages fair and equitable distribution of resources among all communities.

Our Mission:

  • Enhance student success by providing sustainability engagement and leadership opportunities
  • Encourage collaboration between students, staff and faculty in the organization, planning and creation of our University through hands-on learning and civic ecology
  • Ensure that graduates have the appropriate knowledge, skills, and values to act as leaders in their future careers, lifestyle choices, and communities

Feel free to visit the Sustainability Leadership and Outreach Coordinator between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm in Smith Memorial Student Union room 433.  You can contact Heather Spalding by email at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
