When students move-in and move-out of residence halls tons of waste are typically discarded in the form of landfill garbage. As part of efforts to reduce waste at the university, PSU Recycles! has been mounting campaigns of education around diversion and re-use.
At the end of each term, and especially at the end of the school year, students are encouraged to Chuck-It-For-Charity. Gently used clothes and household goods are collected from residence hall drop sites by recycling specialists from PSU Recycles!
This year over 1,800 pounds of blankets, clothing and shoes were donated to Friends of Seasonal and Service Workers (FSSW). The remaining goods were sold to students at the First Annual PSU Recycles! Rummage Sale during September's new student week. The sale yielded over $600 with all proceeds going to FSSW.
Thanks to all students for donating and buying generously!
