RecycleMania 2009 Final Results |

The results for the 2009 Recyclemania competition, which took place over the course of ten weeks last term, show that Portland State moved closer to its goal of reducing the amount of waste generated on campus. During the entire competition, PSU recycled over 145,000 pounds of materials. The Grand Champion prize went to California State University - San Marcos.

RecycleMania Week 8 & 9 Results |

Recyclemania Week 8 and Week 9 results show that PSU has steadily been decreasing the amount of trash generated per person on campus over the last few weeks, with 4.34 pounds generated per person last week. This has us ranked currently in 49th place in the Waste Minimization category.
On the composting front, PSU finished in 39th place, composting 7,850 pounds of food waste during Week 9.
In total, PSU recycled 18,450 pounds of materials during Week 9, and generated 71,850 pounds of trash.

Recyclemania Week 7 Results |

The results for Week 7 of Recyclemania show that PSU finished in 45th place in the Waste Minimization competition, with 4.43 pounds of trash generated per person on campus during the week.
In the Food Service Organics competition, PSU finished in 37th place, composting a total of 7,100 pounds of food waste from campus dining operations.
A special load of hard plastics (not accepted in the normal commingled recycling stream) was recycled at Far West Fibers last week. 400 pounds of CD cases, floppy discs, CDs, pipet cases, and other miscellaneous plastics were collected from campus by the PSU Recycling Crew and diverted from the landfill.
In total, PSU recycled 20,150 pounds or materials last week and sent 72,000 pounds of solid waste to the landfill.

The numbers have been posted for Week 6 of Recyclemania, and Portland State has finished 41st in the Waste Minimization category, with an averagoe of 4.64 pounds of trash generated per person on campus during the week.
During Week 6, PSU composted 8600 pounds of food waste, which is over 2,000 more pounds than last week, and places us in 37th place in the organics division of the competition.
PSU's total amount of common recycables leaving campus last week was 20,200 pounds, along with over 76,000 tons of trash heading to the landfill.

Portland State has moved up in Week 5 of Recyclemania! In the Waste Minimization category, PSU ranks 37th out of over 140 universities across the nation. We've moved up 3 spots in the competition since last week as we strive to generate the LEAST amount of waste per person on campus.
This week PSU composted a total of 6,050 pounds of food service organics, placing us as 39th out of 80 schools in this division of the competition.
PSU also recycled a total of 24,175 pounds of materials, including paper, cardboard, plastic, metal cans, and glass.
